On Saturday, June 7, Alexander Lukashenko opened the new arena at a ceremony before the match between youth teams of Belarus and China, the meeting ended with the score 1:1.

"Lukashenko called the opening of the "grandiose construction" - the national soccer stadium near Vaneyev Square in the southeast of Minsk - "the greatest event" for Belarus.

"The magnificent arena, as well as a new swimming pool of international level, were designed and built by our friends from the People's Republic of China," he said at the opening of the sports facility on June 7.

"I am convinced that this stadium will become another recognizable image of our hero-city Minsk, a symbol of strong Belarusian-Chinese friendship," Lukashenko said.

The stadium, opened just two days ago, leaked due to heavy rain.

The National Stadium in Minsk has a capacity of 33 thousand spectators; Chinese specialists participated in the construction of the arena.
