Musk himself was launching a poll about the need for a third national party in the US.
American entrepreneur and former Democratic presidential candidate in 2020 Andrew Young offered billionaire Ilon Musk (fortune $401 billion according to Forbes) to create a new party in the United States together.
Young in 2022 created the centrist Forward Party (FWD, Forward Party). He put forward his proposal for cooperation to Musk after the latter's quarrel with the American Republican president Donald Trump. Amid the spat, the head of Tesla and SpaceX floated the idea of creating a new party called "America."
In a conversation with Politico, Young said he has yet to hear back from Musk.
"Ilon has repeatedly built world-class companies literally from scratch, and now the vast majority of Americans are hungry for a new approach. I'm willing to explain to Ilon or anyone: a third party can succeed very quickly," Young noted.
He added that the political segment of independent voters in the U.S. is growing fastest right now. "They feel that no one party represents them, and the two-party system doesn't give them what they want," Young pointed out.
Young ran in the 2020 Democratic Party primary but failed to garner enough votes to stay in the race. Musk expressed his support for Young at the time, his first time running for elected office. In 2021, Young ran unsuccessfully for mayor of New York City. That same year, he left the Democratic Party.
