Josef Migasz already held this post in Minsk from 2016 to 2020.

Josef Migas will become the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus. This was announced by the Slovak Foreign Ministry.

The diplomat had already held this post in Minsk from 2016 to 2020, but left it after participating in the parade on May 9 - then it caused criticism in his homeland.

The Ministry stressed that Migas specializes in Eastern Europe and has many years of experience in the post-Soviet space: previously he also headed the Slovak embassies in Ukraine and Russia.

The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia Juraj Blanar commented on Migash's return: "We want to resume a constructive dialog with the Belarusian side - both at the bilateral level and in the multilateral format. Today it is crucial to give space to diplomacy, dialogue and negotiations so that the first results appear, for example, in critical peace talks and the soonest possible end to the war in Ukraine."

The Slovak Foreign Ministry described Belarus as "an economic and political partner in Central and Eastern Europe," with which it is possible to develop cooperation in such areas as trade, agriculture, culture and education.

According to Josef Migasz, the diplomatic mission will continue to provide consular services to Slovak citizens He also noted the growing interest of Belarusians in getting education in Slovakia:

"Slovakia is home to about 10 thousand Belarusians, who are a bridge of mutual understanding between our two peoples."
