A Strategic Electronics Plant Caught Fire In St. Petersburg

There were several explosions before the fire.
On the night of May 29, a fire broke out in St. Petersburg on the territory of the Avangard startup plant specializing in the production of microelectronics, writes unian.net.
According to local Telegram channels, the fire broke out around 1 a.m. in the premises where microchips were manufactured and assembled. According to SHOT, a huge column of black smoke was visible above the factory, and the flames covered an area of about 100 square meters.
"Work is underway to extinguish the fire in the production building at 72 Kondratovsky Avenue. On the 5th floor of the 6-storey building there is burning on the area of 100 square meters," - said the city department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Local telegram channels with reference to eyewitnesses even reported about loud explosions before the fire.
It is noteworthy that the plant "Avangard", where the fire occurred, is a large research and production enterprise. It manufactures radio electronics, microchips, devices, and basic structures for radio electronic equipment.
The plant has the status of the Federal Research and Production Center and is included in the list of strategic and systemically important enterprises of the Russian Federation.
