Funds will be used for long-range weapons, air defense systems, and ammunition.

The German authorities intend to allocate about €5 billion for military support to Ukraine, the German Defense Ministry has said. The funds will be used to create facilities for the production of long-range weapons, as well as supplies of air defense systems and ammunition.

"The total amount of the above-mentioned support services for the Ukrainian armed forces is about five billion euros," the German Defense Ministry said in a statement published on its official website. It will be financed from funds already approved by the Bundestag.

The arrangements are enshrined in a memorandum signed earlier today by the heads of the German and Ukrainian defense ministries Boris Pistorius and Rustem Umerov. According to the German Defense Ministry, the document provides for:

Berlin's financing of the production of long-range weapon systems in Ukraine;

Direct investments by Berlin in the production of weapons;

Fulfillment of Germany's obligation to supply Ukraine with previously promised ammunition;

Agreement on the supply of additional ammunition sets for various weapon systems, including air defense systems;

Germany's financing of medical equipment purchases.

The German Defense Ministry also reported that the Ukrainian Defense Minister and the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Mr. Pistorius and Mr. Umerov, have agreed on the purchase of medical equipment for Ukraine. At the end of the conversation, Merz confirmed that Berlin would continue to support Kiev, including in the development of new long-range weapons.
