The value of the contract is €2.2 billion.

Ukraine has signed a contract for the production of IRIS-T air defense systems for it by a German defense company, the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Rustem Umerov said in his Telegram channel.

"A contract has been signed with Diehl Defence for the production of IRIS-T systems and missiles to them. The total value of the contract is €2.2 billion," he said.

The German side confirmed the contract with Diehl Defence without specifying the amount or what will be produced.

The parties concluded a "letter of intent under which Germany will finance the purchase of Ukrainian long-range systems for hundreds of millions of euros." German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had earlier announced the initiative after meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in Berlin.

The German Defense Ministry specified that under this joint production "a significant number" of long-range systems "should be produced in 2025." "The weapon systems will quickly become available to the Ukrainian armed forces - the first of them could be deployed in just a few weeks," the ministry announced.
