Swiss Watch Exports To The US Grew 2.5 Times

Because of Trump's threats.
Swiss watch exports jumped sharply due to U.S. threats to impose new tariffs, writes Bloomberg. Total shipments rose by one-fifth, thanks to a rise in exports to the U.S., which increased nearly two-and-a-half times.
The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry said its biggest market for manufacturers - the U.S. - saw a 149% increase in exports. That helped total shipments rise 18%, or nearly one-fifth, to 2.5 billion Swiss francs - about $3 billion - for the month. However, excluding exports to the States, the dynamics are different - in the rest of the world, shipments fell by 6.4%.
An analyst at Swiss bank Vontobel Jean-Philippe Bertschi said the growth was the result of US President Donald Trump's trade policies, aimed, among other things, against Switzerland. As the duties imposed in April also affected products made of precious metals and bimetallic alloys, watches made of such materials showed an increase in exports. Bertschi believes the surge in the US was probably a one-off reaction by exporters, with companies rushing to deliver watches before the tariffs were imposed. This does not mean that demand for watches has actually increased.
