On May 23 in Warsaw, the solidarity movement "Razam" held a series of actions dedicated to the memory of the legendary Belarusian anti-Bolshevik partisan Yurka Monich, in the year of the 101st anniversary of his heroic death in battle with the Chekists. The organizers of the event told the website Charter97.org the details.

Yurka Monich is one of the most prominent and principled commanders of the Belarusian anti-Bolshevik underground. Commemorative events in his honor were held even in Soviet times, and in 2007, the movement "Razam" revived and strengthened this tradition by installing the Cross of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk on the edge of the forest, where the last battle of the hero took place. The cross was made in the workshop of the famous Belarusian artist Ales Pushkin, who participated in these actions every year until 2020.

Two more crosses were subsequently installed: in 2008 - in Baturai near Minsk, and in 2009 - in the cemetery of the villages of Malye and Velikie Zhaberichi. However, both were dismantled by illegal decisions of the local authorities. Attempts of human rights defender Ihar Lednik to restore the legality and return the crosses were unsuccessful. Therefore, the action on May 23 also became a tribute to the memory of the Belarusian political prisoners, brutally killed in prisons of Lukashenko's regime.

The participants of the event visited the burial places of Yurka Monich's companions in the struggle for independence of Belarus - Timofei Khvedcheni and Stanislav Bulak-Balakhovich, as well as a contemporary, political prisoner Eduard Lobov, heroically killed in the war for the freedom of Ukraine.

White-red-white flags were raised, flowers were laid, candles were lit, and a minute of silence was declared. Brief speeches were made by Vyacheslav Sivchik, Alena Tolstaya, Ales Makayev.

On that day, in the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Warsaw, Belarusians took part in the funeral service for the repose of the soul of George (Yurki).

The final stage was the event at the Rondo of Free Belarus, where Pope Vyachaslav Barok spoke. The participants of the action again lit candles and laid a wreath of white-red-white roses at the place where it is planned to install a memorial sign in honor of Belarusian heroes.
