Russia Has Abandoned Its Pensioners In Latvia

They've been without money for four months.

About ten thousand Russian pensioners living in Latvia (for the majority of them the Russian pension is the only income) have not received money for four months, a resident of Riga told kasparov.ru on May 23.

The Russian embassy is throwing up its hands and telling those concerned about Western sanctions. Nevertheless, the embassy itself has apparently found channels for receiving funds for its work.

The Latvian Foreign Ministry was quoted by the LETA agency as saying that there are no practical obstacles that would prevent the Russian side from transferring funding intended for the payment of pensions and benefits in Latvia.

The Foreign Ministry emphasizes that the Russian side is aware that such transfers are not subject to sanctions.
