They will affect the "shadow fleet" of the Russian Federation.
The Council of the European Union on Tuesday, May 20, approved the 17th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
This was announced by the EU High Representative for External Relations and Security Policy Kaia Kallas on the social network X.
"The EU approved the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting almost 200 ships of the shadow fleet. The new measures also address hybrid threats and human rights," she said.
New sanctions against Russia are also being prepared, Callas said.
"The longer Russia wages war, the tougher our response will be," the EU high representative for foreign relations and security policy added.
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrey Yermak said in his Telegram that the new sanctions package contains comprehensive measures that will hit key elements of Russia's military machine, its "shadow fleet" and schemes to circumvent export controls, unian.net.
"It is planned to impose restrictions against another 17 individuals and 58 legal entities, as well as block 189 new vessels that carry Russian oil, weapons and stolen Ukrainian grain. In total, 342 vessels will be under restriction. It is especially important: companies not only from the Russian Federation but also from third countries - in particular, from Turkey, Vietnam, Uzbekistan and the UAE - which helped the Russian military-industrial complex to circumvent the restrictions and supplied components for drones and missiles are under tough sanctions," he said.
