There are casualties.
On Saturday night, a 270-foot Mexican sailing vessel with 277 people on board crashed into and scraped the bottom of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City.
It was reported by Bloomberg.
The New York Coast Guard said 20 people were in serious or critical condition and were still being pulled from the water.
Video posted on social media shows three lighted masts on a large Mexican-flagged sailboat crashing into the base of the post as cars passed on the bridge. The footage then showed the vessel continuing to sail with all three masts destroyed.
"(New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been - ed.) previously briefed on the situation on the Brooklyn Bridge and will be traveling there shortly to inspect the scene and get a full update," spokesman Fabien Levy wrote on social media X.
Bloomberg writes that the Cuauhtémoc, the academy's training ship, was in New York as part of an annual world tour. The ship was scheduled to visit 22 ports in 15 countries, including Jamaica, Cuba, Iceland and France.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams says 19 people were hurt in the incident, with four seriously injured (with CNN's source saying 20 were injured).
"While the sailing vessel Cuauhtémoc was departing New York City, there was an incident involving the Brooklyn Bridge that resulted in damage to the training vessel, temporarily preventing the training cruise from continuing. The condition of the personnel and materiel is being monitored by naval and local authorities who are providing support," the Mexican Navy said in a social media X.
Mexican Navy spokesman Capt. Juan Caballero told CNN that the ship was on a training cruise that takes place every year, adding that the Navy is working to determine how many people were on the vessel.
New York City emergency officials said all lanes on the Brooklyn Bridge were briefly closed in both directions after the incident, but were reopened at 10:30 p.m.
"While inspections will continue, there are no signs of structural damage to the Brooklyn Bridge at this time," Adams spokesman Fabien Levy said.
